Week in Review – 4/1/17

Happy Saturday, I thought I would start a new series akin to the week in pics, something easy something that helps you get to know me and something that will hopefully get you thinking about your own week in review. As always if you’re interested in following me on any of my social media platforms they are listed below:

This week sucked – if there was a main theme to a week that would be it. It’s not really that it sucked, but I came down with a bug when we got home from Reno and I’ve been down for the count more often than not.

With that here are a few categories I thought you might be interested in:

What are you reading – Mostly other blogs this week, I know I need to start reading to meet my goal of 30 books by the end of the year, but I always seem to find something else to do instead. Favorite Blogs – http://www.danthepixarfan.com and http://www.bohoberry.com

What are you listening to – Still on the Moana kick – I have “You’re welcome” running on a loop in my head. That and old Pat Benatar – Love is a Battlefield, Invincible and such.

What are you watching – OK this week was rough, I watched the series finale of Bones and cried my way through most of it, then Grey’s anatomy did me in on Thursday.

What are you working on – it’s the end of the month so reviews and planning mostly. Blog, work, house, goals, budget, you name it, it get’s reviewed.

Weekly goals –
– back on the Beta Diet Test
– Easter planning
– lunch with Grandma for her Birthday
– Cheese and beer dinner Friday (maybe not the beer) for my dad (it would have been his birthday)
– Pedicure
– Exercise 6 days next week
Food for the week/fitness goals – as mentioned above I fell off the wagon so back on to the Beta Diet Test this week – that’s 3 weeks of highly regimental eating (blog posts to follow) and I’m both excited and dreading it. With that, I’m back on Yoga and Piyo for the duration just as a way to stretch my body and not tax it too much during the beta test.

Beauty update – I’m excited, I have a guest post to turn in to myfashom.com next week, it includes 3 everyday looks and a quick interview of my favorite beauty products. Add it a trip to Sephora today for the youngest prom makeup and you have a pretty happy camper.

Style update – Did I mention last week I picked up a bunch of stuff from Macy’s and then did an Old Navy outlet trek last weekend? If not, I have a whole bunch of clothes to wash update and take to the tailor this week, I’m truly excited.

What did you really screw up this week – my eating, when I’m sick my food planning and cravings go to heck, needless to say, if it was a fruit or veggie I did not eat it, and when I did finally start feeling better I realized I was really dehydrated too. Fun!

What did you do that was awesome – If I can add in the weekend, we had an awesome trip up to Reno, we had great food, visited with great friends and then had a very romantic and tasty dinner at the Steakhouse at the Atlantis resort. That was exceptionally awesome.

How’s the family – family is good, the hubby celebrated his birthday this week, he had a weekend away, cake with his family, special dinner cooked by me and another one cooked by my mother, all in all, I think he did rather well. The oldest is doing her thing, some weeks we’re in each others business like no other but this week it’s been rather sparse. I guess to make up for it the youngest and I have spent a lot of time with each other, from “unmentionables” shopping earlier this week, to trying her prom ensemble later in the week, dinner on Friday and then all day together today before she heads off to the prom tonight.

How are the dogs – babies are good, I’m staring at one right now, playing dead on the floor, I think I might be able to get a chalk outline of her if I hurry. They had a hard time with me going to work after being home most of the week, I swear it’s like I have additional appendages when I’m home with them, with my husband he says they greet him when he comes home and then takes off other directions. I think I got the better end of the bargain.

Until next week – XoXo – Sarah

Ten hours of Sunlight

Happy first day of spring!  This post is from a few years back but I love to repost it around daylight savings or the First of Spring just as a reminder to myself that longer days are coming.

I check the weather report every morning, as most people do I suppose; as I’m drinking my coffee and deciding what I’ll wear for the day. It has become part of my morning ritual – once the weather and traffic report are shown I turn the TV off and go about my day. One of the interesting things about our local weather guy is, in addition to weather and tidal information (very important this time of year in CA) he gives a little bit of extra information, sometimes to do with Astronomical events happening like a meteor shower or what planets are really visible, sometimes it’s a tidbit about Baseball – mostly little league because that’s what his kids play, and sometimes if you catch it at the right time he will tell you how many hours of sunlight are in the day. As a person with night blindness, I tell you, watching the number go down as we head into the deepest dark of winter makes me cringe. I start to think about all of the things that won’t get done because I’ll be rushing home just barely making it before full dark sets in, and many days I pray my way through the traffic disasters, wondering if today will be the day I get stuck behind one and have to white knuckle it all the way to the house. This morning though we hit a new high, a little more than 10 hours of daylight! 10 hours I decided I could work with. I’m noticing that the sky is pink toward the beginning of my drive to work and the morning star is harder and harder to find these days. And – I actually have at least an hour of light (not full mind you – but light just the same) after I get home, giving me time to move out to my garden and pull a few weeds or turn soil before I can’t see what I’m doing anymore. Even though we’re still bitterly cold, and spring is a long way off, for a few minutes each afternoon I have a small reprieve in my back yard and a feeling of wellbeing takes over – I have made it through another dark winter, sigh, I can breathe again when I drive back and forth to work, deeper sigh, and soon, I’ll be able to start working in all of the things I’ve missed out on during the long dark nights. 10 hours of sunlight – doesn’t seem like a lot but to me it is the tipping point to spring even more so than the mark on the calendar designating that day.
