Curvy Girl Style – Fall Style Challenge – the trouble with Shoes

Happy Monday to everyone! How are we feeling today?

Me? It’s almost the middle of November, sunny and 75 degrees outside. I’m a little concerned! But since I haven’t figured out how to make it rain by mere will, we’re going to talk about one of my favorite thing! Shoes!

I love shoes, and for some reason I really love expensive shoes, like shoes I’m never going to buy, because good God why would anyone (middle class) spend $5000 on a pair of shoes? Don’t get me wrong I’m still going to lust over them but actually buy them? Not unless I win an ungodly amount of money to blow, and since I’m terrible at gambling, I don’t play the lottery and I don’t have rich family that I’m waiting for to die lust is about all I can do. Sigh.

I’m having a few issues with shoes at the moment and my fall capsule is somewhat contributing to it.

1. Cute shoes are usually not comfy shoes – let’s face it, walking in heels for any length of time is rough. Add 50lbs of extra curvy to a girls frame and it goes to really rough. I bring my shoes into the office with me, I wear them for meetings – around the office for most of the day, but switch out into my tennies for lunch and usually out completely when I get coffee toward the end of the day. Yes I know I know, I am one of “those women” but really, do we always have to compare ourselves to Carrie Bradshaw or the girls in the “the Devil wears Prada”? I’m not saying I’ve made it to “working girl” status but…….it might be a close call this winter.

2. Trying to get 10K steps in a day requires foot maneuvering – let’s just say that trying to get all of your steps in is not always conducive to wearing cute shoes. If you ever find that pair of heels that will make me feel like I’m wearing my sneakers all day and don’t cost an arm and a leg – let me know I’ll buy them in most of the colors and make them work with my outfits 🙂

3. It’s still stinking hot – how are we to wear our longer boots when it’s almost 80? I know CA weather can be unpredictable at best, but I really was expecting us to hit our usual 60 – 65 by this time of the year. I have a pair of knee high boots, a few longer shirts and wool pants that haven’t seen the light of day because of the weather. How can you plan for it?

4. And lastly – I have to admit I had a shopping hiccup last week. There was a pair of riding boots in tan and a style that I have been looking at for months. The went on sale last week for 70% off – I couldn’t help myself. On the flip side I did promise I would not wear them until my winter capsule starts – and since it’s still warm out it’s not a hard thing to wait for. Sigh – winter where are you?

So there you have it, me in a total nutshell on how a feel about shoes at the moment! Today I even wore Jeans and my sneakers into the office as my “look” – Gasp! I know right? I have a doctor appointment (CT scan) right after work today and it seemed like it would be a lot of work to wear my normal work clothes. Plus it’s Monday and I’m a little down after the weekend.

What issues are you having with your capsule wardrobe? Any?

Curvy Girl Style – Fall Style Challenge 1/2 way recap

I realized this morning I’m halfway through my first capsule wardrobe, I can’t believe it. Aside from a small moment about a month ago where I realized window shopping was not a good idea when I’m still fresh to the capsule wardrobe lifestyle. I’ve absolutely loved this journey thus far. Getting dressed in the morning is easy, I have yet to repeat an outfit, although I feel I might be right on the edge of that now, and I’m still really excited about the whole idea of the capsule wardrobe.
All in all over the last 6 weeks, I have created 11 relaxed daytime outfits, either for days off or Friday Causal in the office and 23 work outfits – all tried and true worn out of the house and out into the real world. Of those 34 outfits I have managed to take pictures of 30 of them – wow! I know, how impressed are you with that? I know I am since I’m usually changing out of my sneakers and into heels at 5:45 to take a pic in front of the mirror before I run out the door.
So how do I feel about the next 6 weeks? about my wardrobe? great and a little nervous, it’s starting to get cold here in CA (well CA cold) and I don’t know if I’ve brought enough layering pieces to make it work, I guess we’ll find out.
All in all I’m really excited to know now that this process is not only doable but enjoyable for me. I think this was a huge turning point for me and my excessive wardrobe spending, and I can tell you my credit cards are so much happier not being worked to the bone each weekend. I actually have a little saved for my next capsule already!

Here’s a breakdown of the last 30 looks – some of the pictures are horrendous but I hope you can tell they’re getting better as I get more practice – lol

Have a great Monday!
