Top 5 Rides at Disneyland

I love Disneyland, the sites the sounds the Dole Whip!  Ok I don’t really like the  Dole while but I might be one of the only people that doesn’t. One thing I do love while visiting is riding all of the wonderful rides Disney has to offer.  Here’s a list of my Top 5 Rides at Disneyland.

1. Pirates of the Caribbean – Yo ho Yo ho a pirates life for me! The whole family loves this ride, we have a deal that we try to ride it as many times as we can while we’re there. The last time we were down we were seated behind a father and his younger son, the son at one point asked his dad if the ride was going to be scary, the dad smiled and said no.  Both Steve and I sat back whispering to each other – wait for it….wait for it; and yes sadly we both giggled as the little boy screamed going down the first waterfall.  Although you couldn’t really hear him over us singing along with the song.

2. Heffalumps and Woozles, Heffalumps and Woozles – I do have to say that I believe the Imagineers that created this ride might have been smoking something funny.  No matter to me though, it makes the slower story ride fun for us, we have a blast trying to see all of the images and how they change with the blacklights. And who doesn’t love Pooh Bear?

3. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – Sadly the last few times we went down we didn’t have the opportunity to ride, but that’s ok – we made up for it in May riding more than a few times, and the updated version is a blast.  What’s even better is getting up to the rise and hearing the collective ohhhhhh, as you get a full view of the construction of Star Wars Land!  Don’t get me wrong I love the ride by itself, but that might have been the best part of the day for us.

4. The Jungle Cruise – I don’t know if it’s the drivers bad puns, or the astounding animatronics that have stood the test of time, but this is hands down one of my favorite rides at Disneyland.  We’ll even wait in a 45 minute queue just so we can see all of the cool things in the line, and then to be entertained by the local boat operator is always fun, I mean who doesn’t like to see the backside of water?

5. Haunted Mansion – what can I say? I love the original, love the Nightmare before Christmas editon, wondering how I can make sure I’m the 1 more added to the 999 ghosts that live there 🙂 – There’s a great podcast and blog post about it on Stuff you missed in History Class that gives an awesome history of the ride.

Disney Drinking – My Favorite Lounge in DCA

One of my favorite things to do as an adult when heading to Disney, is find a nice spot to sit in the afternoon and people watch. Preferably with a beverage in hand, and even better when that beverage has an alcohol base. And hands down my favorite spot to do that at the Disneyland Resort is the Carthay Circle Lounge – in DCA.

It is literally a throw back to an easier time, as it pays homage to one of Walt Disney’s achievements (premiering Snow White).  When you enter the lounge you are welcomed with oversized chairs and heavy wood furniture, you literally get eaten by the arm chairs at the exterior tables. The lounge itself is small, and set up to keep guest huddled and give the illusion of privacy in a large space.  Again the lighting, plush rugs and great acoustics aid in the full effect, of sitting in a bar in the 40’s enjoying your late afternoon or pre dinner cocktail.

I have visited a few times now and have settled on the Pear Martini as my drink of choice, I could have two or three if time and other customers allowed it, but, it’s always busy and while no one ever pushes you to leave.  You do feel the looks from those waiting to get a seat :).

There are a number of tasty items you can order off the menu. We chose the Queso Fundito and were very pleased when it arrived. Yes that is a batch of melted cheesy goodness!

All in all, if you looking for a nice quiet place to sit, people watch and enjoy an Adult beverage, when next visiting the Disneyland Resort, I would suggest visiting the Carthay Circle Lounge.  It’s not the least expensive place to visit but the ambience, quality of food, drink and service make up for it.

Where do you like to visit when resting at Disneyland?
