Ulta 21 Days of Beauty Event

I love me a good sale, and Ulta’s 21 days of Beauty event is one of my favorites to stock up on. If you are not familiar with this sale, it runs from 3/19 to 4/8, everyday Ulta offers two to 3 different high end beauty item for sale each day, the trick is to know what’s for sale on what day and make sure you can pick it up from your local store or just buy online. I thought it would be fun to show you the items I’m looking at picking up and offer a few tips and trick’s I’ve learned with this event.
Here are the high end items I’m looking at and the date’s they’re on sale:
Tuesday 3/28 – Tarte’s Maneater eyeliner – $10, I’ve got to say I’ve been really impressed with Tarte recently and their Maneater mascara is my new favorite, I’m hoping to be impressed with the eyeliner as well.
Wednesday 3/29 – Laura Geller’s Baked Blush – $14 – I received one of these as a freebie a few years back and was hooked, it gives off just the right amount of color and glow. I know I have a few blush colors at the moment but since we’re transition through spring and summer, I’m not worried about picking one of these up and not using it.
Friday 4/7 – Tarte’s Amazonian clay highlighter – $14 – I have been obsessing about thier highlighters since they came out last year, but haven’t been able to justify paying for one when I have others to use, and unlike my daughter I do not seem to be able to run out of one, no matter how hard I try.  But at $14 that’s a steal and I’m sure I can find one in a shade I don’t already have.
On another note Benefit in Ulta is offering a free Brow Service with a $50 purchase on 3/25 and 4/8.  If by chance you need to stock up on your favorite brow accessories (obviously mine) this would be the best time to do that as well.  I am a huge fan of their Gimme Brow and the Precisely My, Brow Pencil, and for kicks and giggles they’ve just come out with a new Hoola Light bronzer for $29.
Not only does Ulta offer daily deals on your favorite products they offer hot buys throughout the event, and of course I have my eye on a few of those as well.
Tarte – Marcuja oil $25 normally $48 – This has become my new night time moisturizer, it has done wonders for my skin this winter season, I also took a trick from one of my favorite Tarte Snapchatters – Leigh, she massages a little bit of the oil onto her scalp to help counter winter dryness, I’ve got to say, it’s been a game changer for me.
Lipstick queen’s Saint or Sinner lipsticks – $14 normally $24 – If you have not tried this brand you really need to.  The formula of her lipsticks are on par with any high end named brand, and the color payout is to die for.  The brand is best known for their Frog Prince or Hello Sailor color changing lippies but her standards really hold their own as well.  – just a quick side note it looks as if she’s coming out with a small line of liquid matte lippies (6 shades) I have not tried them but am excited to see how they are.
Dr Brandt – Needles no more – $57 normally $95 – I have received samples of this mask and have been pleased with the results, but you know as well as I do, the only way to tell if something is really good is if you can use it a few times and see graduated results.  I feel this mask reaches a price point I’m willing to test it on.  Although maybe I don’t want it to work well because if it does I’ll have to kick over the $100 when it’s not on sale.
Now if that wasn’t enough to get me moving to the store or online they also have some of my favorite brands/products on sale at the moment.
img_0298Tarte Double Duty Beauty Empowered Hybrid Gel Foundation – $27 normally $39 – I have been using this product for a few months now and I have to say, it’s awesome.  I know there’s a lot of mixed reviews out there on this foundation, and let’s be honest most of them are not good.  But! For a few of us that have exceptionally dry skin, those of us that need a lot of moisture, and love a sheer to medium coverage foundation.  This is really the right fit for you, make sure you putting this on with a beauty blender (or something similar) and you will be amazed at 1. How good your skin looks and 2. How good your skin feels.  Small Disclaimer – if you are one that likes your foundation to flash over to a dry consistency this is not a formula for you, even after hours of wear you’ll still have a slightly tacky feeling on the side of the face and around your hair line.
img_0295Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer – $8.99 normally $14.99 – I know I know, this brand does not have the best color spectrum, especially for darker skin tones.  My oldest has deeper olive undertones to her skin and is stuck with eyeliners and shadows.  But for those of us that are fair, this bronzer is awesome, it comes in two colors, light/medium and medium/dark – I use the lighter in the winter and the darker in the summer as an all over Bronzer, it give a great glow to the skin and smells like you’re on a tropical vacation.
img_0296L’Oréal infallible lip paints- $5.99 normally $9.99 – these come in a number of awesome colors and for the price you can afford to get one in a “standard” and one in a “fun” color like this teal.
img_0302Physicians Formula Boost Instant lash kit – $8.99 normally $14.99 0 if you’re not into wearing falsies all the time but want a little extra now and then – this is the kit for you.
img_0303NYX Cosmic Metals – $9.99 – when I was pulling up the information on the Lid Lingerie palette last week, I was confronted with this beauty.  Looks like the same concept as the Lid Lingerie palette, but with great metallic shades.
img_0300Lastly – Ardell lashes are on sale buy one get one 50% – their Wispies and Demi Wispies are my favorite in the cheap falsie category and any time they’re on sale, I snatch a few up.
With all the great things on sale here’s a few tips I use to make sure I really get what I want and a few things to keep in perspective.
– I always check the store by my house first for the things that I want, if it’s not there I head out to the one by my office, I’m lucky I have two so close by.
–  If nothing is available at either location I start slashing what I want to make sure I have one order that qualifies for free shipping (currently $50) and I make sure I use an app like Ebates to earn some cash back.
– If I’m close on my platinum perks points to a good dollar amount I may chose to use them or stack them up for my next big purchase.
Things I keep in perspective:
– Ordering from Ulta is not like ordering for Sephora or Macy’s – you will wait 10 days for your order to arrive
– If it’s not in store and you don’t meet the minimum for shipping really decide if you need the item now of if it’s just nice to have (although who’s kidding, how often do I not qualify for free shipping)
– Most of my items are from Tarte and they will be having their friends and family spring sale soon!
I hope you enjoyed checking out my wish list for the 21 day of beauty event.  I’ll post a few reminders in my IG page for items I’m looking forward to.  What are you looking forward to trying?

NYX Lid Lingere Palette – Review

I found the NYX Lid Lingerie palette just before Christmas and instantly fell in love with its simplicity and colors. Anyone that’s read my lipstick love posts, knows I’m a sucker for a nude, and this palette fit the bill perfect. But I held off on purchasing until I could get to the NYX retail store and test out the wear of the powders, I’ve been burned by NYX shadow palettes before, drawn in by their colors and packaging, only to be dissapointed with blotchy products and bad wear. So how did this one fair? Read on to find out.

What do you get

This palette is a follow up to NYX’s Lip Lingerie line, it is a set of 6 matte colors, in various nude shades to be worn together or alone for a look anywhere between subtle and full blown nude smoky eye. You get six .04 oz pans of shadow for $10 on the NYX website breaking down to $1.66 a shadow.

I love the simple packaging of this kit, it’s simple – no mirror or brush, which quite honestly I don’t feel I need anyway. It’s compact, about 2.5 inches wide and 3.75 inches long. but you get a decent amount of product for it’s size.

How did it look

NYX really nailed it with the look on this product, 6 square pans in an easy to see package, it is visually appealing to someone that likes sleek lines.

How did it smell

There is a little bit of a fragrance to the product but not much I really had to get in there to smell anything.

How does it wear

And now down to the nitty gritty of the product. NYX palates have a tendency to be hit or miss on blotchyness. Sometimes their darker shades just dont hold up. All in all, this Palette really wowed me, the colors have depth, they blend well, and they don’t muddy together. Here’s a pic with primer and without to give you an idea of the coverage.

Wear wise, I felt with primer it lasted all day with very little bleed or oxidation. I took a shot of one of the looks in the morning and the same at night for comparrison.

Any adverse reactions to the product

I have mild talc issues, which this palette contains, but it did not seem to trigger any of my normal reactions. I’ve worn every color multiple times without incident.

Value for price point

You get six .04 oz pans of shadow for $10 on the NYX website breaking down to $1.66 a shadow. To give an example of a similar 6 pan design, the Tartelette Tease palette has six .03 oz pans for $27 dollars breaking down to $4.50 a pan – mind you Tarte is a higher end brand, but I would wager this particular NYX palette could give the Tarlette Tease palette a run for its money.

What I love

I have had a lot of fun testing out this palette, in my opinion, it is very versatile for being a neutral palette with only 6 colors, I think it’s a great palette to wear during the work week. I’ve paired it with brown, black and oxblood eyeliner over the course of the looks and have been pleased with all of them. Below are just a few of the looks I’ve come up with over time for this palette.

What could use some work

The only true gripe I have with the palette are the warmth of the lighter colors, if I had my way, one of them would be a cooler neutral to really make things pop.

Final thoughts

All in all, I really love this palette, it’s a mainstay in my collection, and while I have a few others to choose from, I’ve reached for this palette more often than not to round out my work week makeup look. If you’re looking for an affordable neutral palette, look no further. You will be pleased with your purchase.

What do you think about this palette?
