Wednesday Weigh in

Happy Wednesday to all – can you believe it’s April already? I tell you the world is conspiring to pass me by.
It has been a good but long week, we had tons of after work meetings, and Steve’s birthday weekend in which we ate too much and spent way too much money, but all in all I feel like we’re back on track and ready to take on this next week with a vengeance. I am down about 3lbs this week (I suspect since it’s almost exactly what I gained last week a womanly hormonal thing) but that still throws me right around 230lbs – 229.3 (to be exact) and I seem to have been hovering around this weight for a while and I’m hoping I can finally get over the hump of medications and stress to get down to business and dropping pounds. Honestly if I want to be closer to 200 by the end of May I need to get moving.
On the stress front Miss Foxy-o and I have challenged each other to practice Yoga twice a week for the month of April, I like to practice in the mornings when my mind is most clear, so tomorrow and Saturday will be my mornings this week. Gaiam Yoga has a great site and a few free practices that I love to use I actually belong to the yoga club and download podcasts to work with. It keeps me honest in my practice and not lazy about what I want to do one day just because I don’t feel like doing it.
I haven’t had much of an opportunity to really exercise recently but I have been working on a few 30 day challenges – below – feel free to join me in either.



Lastly, I found an article yesterday on that really got me thinking again about my body image, really about women in general and their body image. If you have not had a chance to read it feel free to check the link out I’m going to attempt to re-blog it but it’ll be my first time (wink wink) and I’m not really sure how it works.

    It seems like everyone is doing yoga! I was thinking of joining, but I honestly don’t think I’d get through one class without CPR. 🙂 It looks very challenging.


    • A lot of sites I’ve seen on the internet and new classes try to focus on fast movements and cardio training, Yoga is not that at all, its about breathing, finding balance in your body, life and space. Most practice is meant to be slow and focused without pushing your body to an extreme, the more you practice the better you feel and the more you want to do it, at least until day after a good session where you hurt in places you didn’t know you had. From a woman’s perspective I’ve always felt centered, fully balanced and “sexy” when I finish yoga, it’s hard not to when you’ve spent 30 minutes to an hour focusing on your body and deep breathing, what better way to get your endorphins going?

    I just envision a really bad Jim Carey moment in white sweats if I go. It really does intrigue me, though. My real issue is lack of strength in my left arm after spinal fusion a few years back. I thought that in yoga, you depended on all of your limbs.


    • lol – I can appreciate, there are perks practicing in the comfort of your own home. Most of the time when you’re watching TV or movies they’re showing the “made for TV” side of yoga that always seems to show off a woman’s behind bending over or pretzeling into some strange posiition, it’s really not all like that. Now I’m not a doctor but I’ve always been big on the idea of yoga for recovery of injuries, there are many poses (mostly standing) that do not require a lot of stress on your arms, but will work the muscles in your back and shoulder to aid in repair and strength in your arm, and the key is to always find balance and stretch without totally pushing yourself too far. If you’re going to try a class make sure to talk to the instructor and find out what their philosophy is, and if it sounds reputable to you, let them know about your injury and ask how you can modify a position or use props to aid yourself, if they’re worth their salt they’ll know how to help and not hurt
