Thursday’s Thanks – local bookstores

Hello everyone I hope you are having a wonderful week. My girlfriend and I have a saying about Thursdays – We like them because it’s almost Friday and we really love Fridays – lol.

Today I am thankful for local bookstores, specifically Bay Books, I have been frequenting this store for 15 years now and they always have a great selection of new and used books at affordable prices.

Since they do deal in gently used books and some great first editions – it has that “older book” smell – I’m not talking old moldy library smell but the gently loved, maybe been close to a bathtub and has been steamed, aged binding, well read smell. It’s one of my favorite types of smells, and yes you can get that from the older libraries – we have one in Richmond, CA that still has the green tile floor and the floor to ceiling windows on 3 sides to let in as much natural light as possible.

I digress – back to Bay Books – they have 2 locations, neither are great for me on the weekends but the San Ramon store, works great during the work week, I love popping in at lunch time and loosing myself in the aisles. I always scan the front table for newer reads, they carry many mainstream titles and more that are not. I have found more new authors to read on that table than I ever have at the large book retailers or though online outlets as well. But it’s really more thank that – they have a great staff that you can tell loves to ready, they have a few fun alcoves that you can hide in and loose yourself in a chapter or two, and even on my worst day between the smells and the books and the friendly staff, I always walk out of there with a book in hand and a smile.

What local business are you thankful for?
